As an affiliate of the Civilian Marksmanship Program, the Carmel Gun Club is dedicated to the promotion of rifle practice, mostly through organized high power rifle matches and clinics conducted at the Monterey County Swiss Rifle Club and the public range at Laguna Seca. We have at least one event every month. About a third of our shooting is Swiss-style rifle, shot at 300m, and the rest is NRA high power with leanings toward service rifle and especially the M1 Garand rifle.
Beginners are more than welcome! If you don't know yet what it's all about, reading this site will be a good place to start. If you have questions, don't hesitate to email us, or, better yet, come to a match or clinic. We can help point you in the right direction, and you can even use one of our loaner M1s.
Membership dues are $30 for the year, and there is a range fee for each match, usually about $20.
US Service Rifle Shooting
A full two-thirds of the shooting done at Carmel Gun Club is NRA high power shooting, and most of our members elect to shoot service rifles rather than match rifles, although both are quite welcome at our matches. We ordinarily shoot the National Match course of fire, or, for Garand matches, the CMP "B" course of fire. Get details on National Match course of fire.
The club has a very active Swiss Rifle group. We use the range of the Monterey County Swiss Rifle Club for our matches and use the 300 meter range for all Swiss matches. More information about Swiss Shooting.
